In 2007, I had a similar problem when I backed up my files on an old G3 before I sold it and transferred them to my newer (used) G4. They were mostly OS9 files and my G4 does read OS9 classic files.mostly jpg files and screenshots.but now the are Unix Executable Files and I can't open with anything on my Mac. Even tried on a G5 and it said same thing. Someone told me I need to get these files back on to a G3 in order to read them and then copy to a CD instead of a thumb drive!
